Dance Program

About

New Steps Dance & Fitness Center has specialized in dance instruction for ages 2-adult since 1984. Our fitness program was founded in 2016 under the direction and ownership of Janelle Bradway. We are located at 31 Concord Street in Glastonbury, CT.

General Information

Our year-long dance classes meet once per week for 45 or 60 minutes (see schedule page for details), with our Twinkle Tots & Adult Dance classes meeting every week for a 10 week session. Students are encouraged to perform in the year-end recital to share their accomplishments with family and friends; however, it is not mandatory. For students participating in the recital, dress rehearsal is mandatory. Twinkle Tots, Adult dance & Sunshine Star students do not participate in the Recital. During the summer months we offer a short session along with a drop-in option.

Student class placement isn’t solely based on age but experience and ability as well. Please email Miss Janelle for your child’s class placement. Janelle@newstepsdanceandfitnesscenter.com

If the schedule does not allow your child to have back-to-back classes, students are welcome to wait in our locker room between classes to eat dinner, do homework and wait, as long as they respect the studio and classes that are in session and have approval from Miss Janelle.

Eating, drinking or gum chewing are not allowed during class. Only water is allowed in dance studios. No outside shoes on dance floors. Please make sure to have clean dry, indoor shoes where sneakers are worn.

We have two built-in snow days per semester for our year-long dance classes and will schedule makeup sessions after two cancellation days.  Classes canceled during any 10-week dance session will be added to the end of the 10 weeks.  Please check email, Social Media accounts and NBC Connecticut for cancellations.  We DO NOT follow any school system cancellations.

Dress Code & Shoes

Proper dance attire reflects a proper attitude towards dance.  We permit any color or style leotard with tights and the appropriate dance shoes.  Hair must be pulled back and no baggy or loose garments will be allowed.  This includes all Hip Hop classes as well.  Ballet skirts or spandex dance shorts may be worn over leotards and tights.  Adult Dance Classes do not need to follow the dress code.  Adult Dance Classes only may wear clothing that is not dance attire i.e; leggings, t-shirts, athletic wear, etc.

NO OUTSIDE SNEAKERS ALLOWED FOR ANY CLASS WHERE SNEAKERS ARE REQUIRED.  A clean/new pair of sneakers that have only been used for indoor use is appropriate for these classes. (Hip Hop, fitness, etc.)

PLEASE NOTE - Outside street shoes should not be worn on the dance floors.  This helps to keep them clean and dirt free.  During the winter messy months especially, please leave out door shoes in locker room.  Thank you for you understanding and cooperation with helping us to keep our floors clean and dry.

NO DANCE SHOES SHOULD EVER BEEN WORN OUTSIDE.  The pavement, grass, dirt & sand can ruin all dance shoes.

You can shop our online dance wear shop for all of your dance class needs. We have samples in studio for sizing.

We also have gently used dance clothes and shoes available for purchase in-studio. Please visit our dress code page for all the details and to make sure you are ready and prepared for class.
